Karl Hfner ‘Guarneri’ 225 Violin

Karl Hfner has been making fine string instruments since 1887. Their very finest model, the 225 justly bears its designation as Hfner’s “Meistergeige” (Master Violin). Each instrument is individually numbered and bears a certificate testifying that it is the work of the most experienced violin makers in the Hfner workshop. We have selected the Guarneri del Gesu model as the most appropriate for this beautiful violin which compares favourably with the highest level contemporary Italian instruments for tone, craftsmanship and beauty.

The top is of select, aged Alpine Spruce top, cut from the same forests that provided the material for great master makers throughout Europe since the 17th century. Figured European maple for back, sides and neck. Hand-applied oil varnish which is artistically but discreetly old-imitated to provide a soft, deeply lustrous, satin glow. This top level artist’s instrument will be a treasured companion on your life’s musical journey. Individually set up and tone-regulated in our workshop, with your choice of Thomastik “Dominant” or Pirastro “Tonica” strings.
