Introduced in 1961 as the new Les Paul, the SG Standard quickly evolved into its own iconic model. By 1964, it featured the now-classic small pickguard, dual humbuckers, and Maestro Lyre Vibrolaan unmistakable combination that helped define the look and sound of mid-60s Gibson electrics.
This Gibson Certified Vintage 1964 SG Standard comes from the daughter of the original owner and is in excellent original condition, with only a vintage replacement switch tip. The guitar shows very mild lacquer checking and typical hardware tarnish. Specific points of wear include a quarter-sized spot through the finish at the 12th fret from contact with the neck block in the case, a small ding through the finish at the 3rd fret, and a few small bits of cable burn on the back, including a 2-1/2″ section along the back edge near the strap button. The decal is missing from the original neck pickup (which remains untouched with clean solder joints). With its rich Cherry finish, this is a beautifully preserved, great-playing vintage SG.
It ships in its original Lifton black and gold case and includes a Certificate of Authenticity, Letter of Appraisal, and new Limited Lifetime Warranty.
