This Gibson Certified Vintage 1952 ES-5 is a beautiful example of a classic Gibson archtop. Built before the Switchmaster designation was introduced, this instrument retains the elegant simplicity of its original 3 volume/master tone control layout without a selector switch.
The guitar is in clean vintage condition with very light checking, mild hardware tarnish, and minimal playwear. A handful of nicks, dings, and scuffs are present throughout, with the most notable being a oval worn through the finish on the back of the neck at the 2nd fret. Theres also a stabilized split in the binding near the pickguard bracket on the treble-side waist, visible on both the top and back. A small corner of lifting binding near the bass-side f-hole was re-glued during inspection. Theres some understated but very three-dimensional figuring in the maple throughout the guitar, enhancing the look of this big, beautiful jazz box.
This ES-5 has undergone a plane and re-fret by Gibson Repair & Restoration and now features a bone nut for optimal playability. Comes with an original Lifton brown and pink hardshell case and includes a Letter of Appraisal and new Limited Lifetime Warranty.
