Introduced in 1961 as a successor to the original Les Paul, the Gibson SG quickly became a rock icon with its aggressive tone, lightweight body, and double-cutaway design. This rare example of a 1964 SG Standard features an original Bigsby B5 Horseshoe vibrato and Bigsby Dogbone bridgean uncommon bridge/tailpiece configuration for an SG from this era. Although there are bridge post holes beneath the Bigsby bridge, the “tan line” left on the body suggests that this bridge has been on the guitar for a very long time, if not originally installed by Gibson.
The guitar is in very good condition overall, with an all-original finish showing a few small touchups on the headstock. It retains its original, untouched Patent Number humbuckers and original hardware, delivering the powerful, articulate tone that has defined the SG Standard for decades. The neck is clean with no breaks, and both the heel and headstock are structurally sound.
Ships in its original black and gold Lifton case and includes a Certificate of Authenticity, Letter of Appraisal, and new Limited Lifetime Warranty.
