This Gibson Custom Select 1963 SG Custom Reissue is given the Murphy Lab Light Aged treatment in a custom Inverness Green finish. Gibson Custom Select features guitars with handpicked, custom features that make for unique combinations of features. These hand-selected features may include custom electronics, unique hardware, and hand-mixed paint finishes. Made in small batches by the artisans at the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee, Gibson Custom Select makes unique offerings that are not available from our standard lineup of guitars. This Gibson Custom Select 1963 SG Custom Reissue features a two-pickup configuration, something that is not currently available on any version of a 1963 SG Custom, nickel hardware, and an Inverness Green finish. This guitar was also sent through the Murphy Lab and given the Light Aged treatment.
The SG Custom is the more ornate version of the SG Standard, which has cosmetic appointments similar to those of the Les Paul Custom. The iconic split-diamond design is inlaid with mother-of-pearl on the headstock, which is also outlined in multi-ply binding. Nickel Grover tuners come as standard and provide rock-solid tuning stability. More mother-of-pearl is featured on the bound ebony fretboard, just like youll find on the 1957 Les Paul Custom. Nickel hardware continues throughout the guitar on the pickup covers, ABR-1 bridge, long Maestro Vibrola, the knurled nut for the toggle switch, and output jack. Black pickup rings and a black toggle switch washer juxtaposed against a multi-ply black pickguard and a single-ply black neck tenon cover give a unique contrast to the aesthetics of the guitar. Most Gibson electric guitars use the same color plastic throughout the guitar, but the SG Custom has always had contrasting plastic colors.
This Gibson Custom Select 1963 SG Custom Reissue has all the same features as a standard production 1963 SG Custom, but with a few tweaks to make this guitar a bit different from the rest of the pack. The most obvious tweak to the classic design is a two-pickup configuration rather than the traditional three-pickup configuration that is found on most SG Customs. Gibson Custom Select and Made to Measure are the only avenues in which to get a two-pickup 1963 SG Custom Reissue from Gibson Custom. Removing the middle pickup not only frees up some space for the picking hand, but the middle position on the toggle switch activates both pickups rather than activating the middle and bridge pickup as it would on a three-pickup SG Custom. The 1963 SG Custom comes in just one finish from the standard lineup, which is Classic White. Inverness Green, a classic Gibson color that is derived from the 50s automotive industry, adds a splash of color to an iconic design. Mix the custom nickel hardware with black plastics on this Inverness Green canvas, and this guitar is not a normal SG Custom.
With its unique pickup layout, nickel hardware, and a custom Inverness Green finish, this Murphy Lab-aged Gibson Custom Select 1963 SG Custom Reissue is a fun twist on a classic model. Mixing different parts of Gibsons past makes for a cool story that will surely start some conversation. Included with the guitar is a reissue hardshell case and a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.
